SUMMARY:October Hear it Here - 2019
DESCRIPTION:Register today for our October Hear it Here!\n\n\n\n\n\nAvoiding and Handling Harassment Claims - Encouraging Civility In Your Workplace in a Post #metoo World \n\n\n\nIn 2016\, a task force appointed by the EEOC completed its review of the status of harassment in the workplace\, noting that despite efforts to address the issue over some thirty years\, harassment continues to be a persistent and ongoing problem. One of the most striking conclusions of the report was the extent to which harassing behavior has gone unreported. Then in 2017 the Harvey Weinstein scandal broke uncovering years of ongoing harassment and abuse in the highest echelons of Hollywood\, media\, politics\, and corporate America\, launching the #metoo movement. What have we learned in the past three years about preventing\, investigating and remediating discrimination\, harassment and bullying in our businesses? This interactive presentation will focus on recognizing and addressing the precursors to harassment\, workplace incivility and bullying. We will discuss how to conduct effective training which encourages and supports the reporting of inappropriate behavior.\n\n\n\nAbout the Speakers:\n\n\n\nJennifer L. Parent\n\n\n\nJennifer is a director and chair of McLane Middleton's Litigation Department. She has over 23 years of experience litigating and resolving disputes for companies and business owners in a wide range of complex commercial cases and employment matters. She has litigated in state and federal courts in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Jennifer has represented employers in the areas of employment discrimination\, executive termination\, retaliation\, harassment\, wrongful termination\, contract\, defamation\, wages\, trade secret\, non-competition\, and non-solicitation disputes. She has also represented companies in employment and tax abatement matters at the agency level and conducted workplace trainings and discrimination/harassment investigations. She is also a trained mediator with extensive experience in alternative dispute resolution.\n\n\n\n\n\nCharla Bizios Stevens\n\n\n\nCharla is a director and chair of McLane Middleton's Employment Law Practice Group. She has extensive background addressing litigated and non-litigated employment issues such as discrimination\, harassment\, employee classification and wage and hour claims. She assists employers in responding to labor audits\, preparing personnel policies and minimizing risk in the hiring\, discipline and termination of employees. Charla conducts management and anti-harassment training and works with employers to maintain legal compliance in a cost-efficient and effective way. She has served as the lead external investigator on a number of significant matters for private employers\, independent schools and colleges and universities. Charla also trains individuals on how to conduct effective internal investigations into issues ranging from workplace complaints to education on sexual misconduct.\n\n\n\nWhat's Hear it Here?\n\nLooking to better understand community initiatives and challenges in Manchester?
